Reboot My Server or Registers

Introduction: Your VISION environment contains two types of computers.

Server: This is the primary computer, which 'serves' all other computers. It is the data repository for your system, containing your files and backups. It will have white labels identifying it as the "VISION Server"

Client: These are all the other computers attached to the Server through the Network. They can be functioning as Registers / Back Office Workstations or both.

In the event that your registers are not communicating with the server or you cannot authorize Credit Cards, ICS recommends that you reboot the server and the clients. This reboot procedure should be done before contacting ICS, as it may solve your problem in the quickest and most efficient manner.

It is probably NOT necessary to reboot your system if only 1 of your clients is not operational. Reboot the problematic client system first.

There are three sections to this document. Refer to the section that best defines your environment.

  • Typical Linux Server with Windows PC clients
  • Linux Server with Linux Clients (standalone or attached PC's)
  • If neither of these describes your store, please contact ICS

    2. SELECT Logout from the list
    3. CLICK Restart Computer
    4. CLICK OK
    5. The computer will now go through the rebooting process
  3. (If you do not have either of these refer to the section entitled "older Versions of LINUX" at the bottom of this page)

Linux Server with Linux Clients (standalone or attached PC's)

If the server is functioning as a client, all processes (register and/or main menu) must be closed.

  1. Once you have closed all applications, CLICK the "K" in the lower left corner.
  2. SELECT "Logout" from the list that appears.
  3. SELECT "End Current Session"
  4. The ICS VISION Server screen will be displayed. CLICK "Shutdown" button on the right.
  5. SELECT "Restart Computer" from the choices and click "OK"
  6. The server will reboot and return you to the VISION Login Screen.

**NOTE** In event that the VISION server has been turned off for whatever reason (e.g. battery died overnight after a power failure) it will be necessary to turn the server back on and then go through the Rebooting process prior to opening your Registers.
